Our New address and our Approach

Burnaby Neuromuscular Massage Therapy | Burnaby Rehab

Burnaby Neuromuscular Massage Therapy moved from the clinic we had occupied from 1991 until May of 2018. We moved across the street in to the brick Medical/Dental building that sits in front of the Bay at Metrotown on the East side. Our new address is 301-6411 Nelson Avenue. We have been fortunate to have WPJ McCarthy as our landlord from the clinic’s inception, and continue our relationship with their ownership group. Our clinic space is new as it was designed and built for our needs. This has allowed us to maximize useable space for our common areas and treatment rooms, which are bright with 3 of the rooms having natural light.

We are happy to announce that the same practitioners will continue in our new location. RMT’s Colleen Schmitt, Brita Hobkirk, and John Russell, as well, Doctor of Chinese Medicine Bei-Yu Hu TCM. We have a combined 116 years of experience.

Colleen, Brita and myself have extensive experience in a variety of manual therapy techniques. These include St. John Neuromuscular Therapy, Muscle Energy, Fascial Release, End-Range loading, Osteopathic Manual Therapy, Joint Mobilization, Visceral Manipulation, and Cranial Manipulation. These modalities all have the common goal of restoring postural balance, soft tissue mobility and joint mobility and alignment. Our overall goal is to help people restore their balance, improve mobility, and help them restore function throughout the body. We take a, whole body, approach to treatment. An example would be a person who presents with headaches which is occurring from trigger points in the muscles of the upper neck. The upper neck tension may be occurring from a hip imbalance which has created tension through the erector spinae muscles. Correction of the hip imbalance is therefore necessary to reduce the upper neck tension and therefore the headache symptoms.

We have also trained with Geoff Gluckman founder of the Muscle Balance and Function [MBF] exercise system. Through a postural/muscular balance evaluation we design an exercise program that is instructed in the clinic but is done on a regular basis at home.

In November 2018 we also were fortunate enough to add Manuela Miutescu to our staff. Manuela approach includes cold laser therapy with the medical grade Theralase laser. We will further outline her approach in future blogs.
